The Inwood Good Shepherd Women’s Shelter gets a Bizzarro Boost

NEW YORK, April 23, 2018 — The Bizzarro Agency—a fixture of Upper Manhattan’s real estate scene, has undertaken charitable initiatives as a way of celebrating the company’s expansion. The company now dedicates a portion of their profits to local charities. The Bizzarro Agency is pleased to announce their first charity, the Inwood Good Shepherd Women’s Shelter, which received a $10,000 donation on April 7, 2018.

At The Bizzarro Agency’s first charitable brunch, held at New Leaf Cafe and Restaurant, volunteers from the shelter were called to the front of the room where they were presented with a larger-than-life check. Between the wave of gasps and tears of joy that followed, it was easy to tell the donation will make a serious impact in the shelter’s operations.

“I’m shocked; we all are. I can’t wait for our next meeting because I think about the team’s faces when they realize we have the next five years covered. Five years! We couldn’t plan that far ahead ever! ” said Jessica Hurtado, a longtime volunteer at the shelter.

What followed was an outpouring of emotion as clients and shelter workers exchanged a combination of hugs and handshakes. It wasn’t shocking that the reaction was the way it was; they know the $10,000 allows the shelter to run at capacity (with groceries, paper goods, janitorial and hygiene supplies) without interruption for five years.

Beyond keeping the shelter stocked, The Bizzarro Agency’s donation provides for a much-needed renovation and safety boost for the shelter. They’ll replace all the old furniture, conduct necessary housing maintenance, get first-aid training for 30 of their volunteers and provide a new, state-of-the-art secure entrance to the facility.

“The Bizzarro Agency’s generosity is quite overwhelming. Matthew has provided a strong example of what it means to love one’s neighbor. Not only are they a donor, but the team volunteers their time at the shelter as well. These divine encounters are love in action and we appreciate [The Bizzarro Agency] for being in communion with us,” said Brother Anthony Zuba, O.F.M. Cap. Pastoral Associate at The Church of the Good Shepherd.
